Is a electric acoustic guitar playable without the battery?

The battery helps the pickup when you are playing through an amp. Listen to the difference in sound with the battery in or out. For just playing without an amp, you will not need a battery. On some of the newer guitars the battery needs to be in to power the tuner.(If so equipped)
