Does the disc version of a sims 3 generations install fine with latest patch 1.22?

I been wondering if it will be playable, since everyone who bought it online is having problem with their direct downloads from ea. Also that "killer patch" version 1.22 is said to be ruining many saved games and causing upsets. So if i will buy a disc from a retail store will everything work fine when i install one???
